SEMESTER IN KOREA

Our Semester in Korea is an intensive 18-week Korean language program in Seoul, with small group classes averaging just 3 students and experienced Korean teachers. All levels welcome, from complete beginners taking their first steps in Korean to advanced learners working towards TOPIK II.

Seoul is the most exciting city in the world to learn Korean, and we put you right at the heart of it. Studying in small groups, living among locals, and practising the language in one of Asia’s most vibrant, fast-moving cities.

Beyond the classroom, you will be navigating Seoul’s neighbourhoods, exploring Korean food culture, and building the kind of real-world fluency that only comes from genuinely living the language.

FAQs For Semester in Korea

I’m a Korean beginner, can I join this semester program?

Yes, most of our Semester program students are also beginners.

We will find a class that fits your level.

If you’d like to learn some survival basics before you arrive in Korea, then our Korean Flexi Classes might be just the thing for you.

I’m over 30, am I too old to partake?

Absolutely not!

Our semester program in Korea, as well as Japan, China and Vietnam, welcomes students of all ages and backgrounds.

Whilst semesters are normally associated with university students, at LTL all ages are welcome.

Is there much for me to do outside of class?

There certainly is. We are fully prepared!

Our staff will produce a list of weekly social activities which students can partake in at their own free will every single week.

These range from visits to our favourite restaurants and bars, to trips to museums, art districts and much more.

When will I have classes?

All of our classes take place Monday to Friday, typically in the mornings.

During busy periods, group classes may also run in the afternoon.

The set class times cannot be changed; however, we are happy to help you switch to a different group class if there is space available.

Is Seoul a good city for learning Korean as a foreigner?

Seoul is the best city in the world to learn Korean, and not just because it is the capital.

It is a city of 10 million people where Korean is spoken in every context imaginable, from the street food markets of Gwangjang to the business districts of Gangnam.

Public transport is world-class, making the whole city accessible from day one.

English is reasonably common in tourist areas, but step outside those zones and Korean becomes essential fast, which is exactly the kind of pressure that accelerates real fluency.

What Korean level will I reach after a semester in Korea?

It varies depending on your starting point and how much you immerse yourself outside the classroom, but most LTL students who arrive as complete beginners finish their semester at TOPIK Level 1.

Students with some existing Korean can typically push through towards TOPIK 2 levels.

The combination of intensive Korean classes, small group sizes and living in Seoul full-time means progress is significantly faster than any part-time or online equivalent.

Can I study for multiple semesters?

Yes you can.

Our semester program runs for 18 weeks but if you wish you can also study for 36 weeks and double up.

Why will I progress more quickly compared to university?

It is genuinely true by the way; you will progress faster here!

Small class sizes are crucial to this. Imagine being in a class of 15 or 30, you can’t speak up. Your teacher cannot correct you.

There is no personal focus. With us there is. You will form a close bond with your teacher(s) and they will get to know your strengths and weaknesses. Don’t underestimate those extra 5/10 minutes per class as well.

55 minutes compared to 45 minutes makes a huge difference over a Semester.

We compared language school vs university studying here.

How many people will be in my class?

This will change according to what time of year you come and how busy the school is, but the class size is between 3 and 10 students depending on the destination you choose.

Why learn Korean in Seoul rather than studying online?

Online study is flexible and a great way to prepare before you arrive, but it cannot replicate what happens when Korean becomes your daily language rather than a subject you dip in and out of.

In Seoul, every interaction, ordering coffee, navigating the metro, chatting with locals, is a real lesson.

The speed of progress during a full semester in Korea consistently outpaces years of part-time online study.

We also offer online Korean classes through Flexi Classes if you want to get a head start before your semester begins.

Happy Birthday to Our Students!
